Kaia also said she wanted to eat a rainbow for her birthday. So I did what I could and created rainbow jello jigglers so she could indeed eat a rainbow for her birthday.

Kaia's 5th Birthday

Kaia had her party at Zoomars since she wanted a Horsey party we figured it was the best place to go. And it was they made everything so easy it was fantastic!
I made Kaia a giant cupcake but she only wanted to eat the chocolate shell.

Last Day of Chanukah

We had a fun Chanukah celebration with some friends for the Last Night of Chanukah

We even lit the Menorah and said a prayer
It was a lot of fun. We are so lucky to have such wonderful friends!

Zoomars

we went to Zoomars one of the kids favorite places to go. The kids wanted to ride the train it was kind of funny Mikey ran straight for the Caboose while Kaia ran straight for the Engine. They both had their places they wanted to be.

The kids absolute favorite. Zoomars has two new animals the Zedonkey's a Zebra Donkey hybrid they are super friendly and really cute. the kids adored them and wanted to stay right near them.

the kids both rode the Horses.
It was pretty cool this was Mikey's first time where he actually rode the Horse. He has asked before and even gotten on but as soon as the Horse moved he always freaked out. this time he loved it and even did two laps.

They also fed the Bunnies and the Guinea pigs

Kwanzaa at Pretend City

We went to Pretend City for their Kwanzaa celebration and we learned all about Kwanzaa. Icompletely forgot to get a picture of the kids art projects and then we left them there. But if you look in the bottom corner of the Picture above you can see it. The kids made Unity cloth picture by painting their fingers different colors and then criss crossing their handprint designs
They got to hear a story about the Principles of Kwanzaa and about Unity and working together.
and of course they did their fun Pretend City activities that they love doing every time we attend. Pretend City really is their absolute favorite place to go.

Christmas at Papa and Grandma Shelly's

We went to Grandma Shelly and Papa's house for Christmas to exchange gifts. We had a lot of fun hanging out and playing with the kids new gifts Mikey got a drum set and a nerf gun which he instantly started playing with. Everyone was pelted with nerf darts. Kaia got some books for her Tag Reading system and a Littlest Pet Shop Bakery which she adores and plays with constantly!

Snowman Soup

I am going to be making snowman soup kits for everyone from now on. Isn't that so cute. It looks like a metal spoon but its actually plastic and just looks like metal with chocolate and crushed candy cane melted into the spoon. the kit also contains hot cocoa mix, marshmallows, and hershey kisses.
Mikey received some adorable gloves and a matching hat from his Aunt Punkin
And Kaia got some fancy gloves and a lovely necklace that she has not taken off since getting them
We had some delicious snacks to go along with our Snowman soup

We had an absolutely wonderful time and I am so glad it has become one of our Holiday traditions.

Chanukah at Pretend City

We went to pretend City for their Chanukah celebration and it was fantastic! We got the chanceto sign up for the Olive Press class. So the kids got to learn about Chanukah and they got to make Olive Oil and see it used to light a Menorah.
The Rabbi who led the demonstration was phenomenal he made the stories and the demonstration so lively and interesting both kids loved every moment of it.
Kaia got to help make the Olive Oil in her little test tube.

The table with the olive press. the kids actually chose the best olives to put into the press and then they saw the olive juice come out. As well as seeing the exact process as to how olives turn into olive oil.
There was also a great Chanukah craft in the Cineplex. My only complaint was that the Olive Press class was set at the same time as the Chanukah craft in the Cineplex so we only got to do a little bit of the craft before going into the Olive Press Class. It would have been nice if they were at separate times so we would have been able to do both.
The art studio had two great art projects Kaia chose to paint a HUGE Menorah
While Mikey partook in a Foam Dreidel craft
And of course we did all the fun other Pretend City activities like visiting the Dentist Office (the kids favorite)
And petting the baby Chicks.

First Night of Chanukah

Mikey's First Hair Cut

Mikey got his first hair cut today. Doesn't he look so old now he looks like a three year old to me now. He is such a big boy.
Kaia was a very supportive big sister through the whole thing
He was so GOOD. He didn't cry once and he sat quietly through the whole thing. There was a little boy next to him was screaming and crying so I expected Mikey to start crying too. Instead Mikey looked at him and the little boy stopped crying and just stared at Mikey for the rest of his hair cut without crying again. It was kind of cool. Mikey was his source of support =)

A little concerned but still so good.

I was a little surprised at how much hair was cut off I always thought his hair was pretty thin but there was a lot of it. We got a certificate and a baggy of Mikey's golden locks to take home. I am putting it in his baby book.

Chankukah Day at Kaia's School

Kaia helped teach her class about Chanukah, We made Latkes, built Menorah's with playdough, lit a real Menorah, read Chanukah stories, sang Chanukah songs, Played Dreidels, we even danced the Horah...really the whole class even the teachers and in the end Kaia passed out chocolate Gelt to all her friends.

You know you want to try this too!
Materials Needed:
Wide Mouthed Jar (we used a pickle jar)
Oil
water
food coloring
tooth pick or skewer

Directions:
1. Fill the jar with water around 1/2 to 3/4 of the way
2. Pour a thin layer of oil on top about a 1/2 inch thick
3. Take food coloring and squeeze a few little droplets on top of the oil
4. Take your toothpick or skewer and push the food coloring through the oil as soon as it breaks through the oil layer it will explode into the water
5. Make sure you use standard food coloring (it is water soluble) you do not want to use a fat based dye (cake dyes) they will dissolve in the oil which defeats the purpose of this fun experiment.

Super Hero Day

Kaia made a Super Hero cape! We set out a blue tarp and made clouds so she could fly through the sky.

Crayon Melt

This was our first attempt

Well I loved the first one so much I decided to go a bit further and do the kids names. I used standard painters tape. I did not measure or anything I just eye balled it. I was not going for perfection
You can see it turned out awesome!

Mikey's was pretty cool too

What I learned:
1. Direct the heat to the center of the crayon.
2. New crayons seemed to melt much faster then my old crayons...not sure why something to think about though.
3. If you are doing a name, shape etc. with tape press down firmly so that the crayon doesn't get under the tape.
4. If you are doing letters you will need to make sure the crayon goes around the letters completely before getting the cool build up. The crayon for some reason was not getting to all the edges of the letters no matter how hard we tried to direct it. So to help it along I took an extra crayon in one hand and the hair dryer in the the other hand and melted the crayon around the letters to create an outline once the outline was there the dripping crayons up top started going in the right direction.

Apple Picking for Rosh Hashanah

We went to Oak Glen to go apple picking for Rosh Hashanah. We went with a Jewish Family group
The kids found this cute old play house to play in
We went there for the apple picking but there were tons of blackberry bushes so Mikey picked a lot of blackberries
The kids had fun looking through all the bushes although they were very prickly bushes

It was beautiful and so much fun. We also got to go next door to the neighboring farm where they have a honey farm so we got apples and honey for Rosh Hashanah it was an amazing day with some great friends.

Mikey Catches a Lizard

Not only was he incredibly gentle he was fascinated and not at all scared
We released the baby lizard back into the wild(our backyard) so it could find its family =)

Alien Bubbles- Otherwise known as the coolest Project EVER!!!

We took dry ice and made bubbles. It was super easy all you need is Dry Ice, an empty container with a tight fitting lid, a tube, a funnel, duct tape, bubble solution and a container to put it in.
And you can make these amazing bubbles
You just put the funnel in the bubble solution and all the gas from the dry ice creates smoke filled bubbles
When you pop them the smoke lingers it is pretty awesome

A Diet Pepsi and Mento Volcano

Aquarium of the Pacific

We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific and it was awesome. We learned about new programs and activities they have.

For instance I never noticed the tiles when you walk in... Bring a notebook and some crayons and you can collect images of all the fish on the tiles.

There is a room where you can learn about North and South Pole right now
I know you can't really see them but we also got to touch Moon Jellies. Yep Jelly Fish I had no idea you could pet Jelly Fish without being stung but yes you can the Moon Jellies were soft and fun to pet.

Kaia loved the Sea Lions they kept swimming past her and so she started "swimming" past them

We went early and got to see al the divers cleaning and feeding the fish
I also never noticed the embossing stations you can go and learn more about each animal and get a cool embossed image
This exhibit was a bit odd to me not sure if you can read it but it says Smell the Smell. I have never once wanted to smell a Sea Bird but you can hear.
There was an awesome room where the kids got to dress up like fish and see and touch some Tide pool creatures

The Aquarium of the Pacific was awesome. We will definitely be going back more often it was such a great experience and the kids got to learn so much I love how hands on it was it really kept the kids attention and kept them wanting more the entire time

Stalking Animals at the Zoo

We went to the Zoo and had a great time. Kaia brought her camera she made at school and took pictures of all the animals. Here though she was scaring us all with her ability to mimic a LION perfectly.

A Fairytale Ball

They decorated the room for the Fairies. They tied ribbons to branches
They decorated Fairy tunnels (toilet paper tubes) and hung them for branches for the fairies to hide in
Kaia made the Fairies some food

The room looked so cute there was even a fairy castle

Kaia had such an amazing time she came home so excited telling Mike that REAL FAIRIES came to her school.

Yummy Veggie Stew

I know it may not look super delicious but it was. We made a Veggie Stew entirely from scratch. It started with some super delicious not so pretty tomatoes from our Garden. We have a ton of them and I was trying to figure out what to do with them so I thought soup. Then from there I started thinking about the other veggies we had. And it turned into an awesome stew that Kaia helped make. She did most of the work except for the peeling and the seeding of the tomatoes. (I will not be doing that again) It was a lot of work.

Rescue Mission

Kaia's school went on a Wildlife Rescue Mission. They made Rescue Ranger Vest's and Badges

They found lost animals and figured outthe best way to help them.
At the end they made S'mores over their campfire.

Circus!

We went to the Circus and it was awesome. Well the Circus was pretty cool but the kids enthusiasm and how much they understood blew me away.
Once the show started Mikey's jaw dropped and he just pointed and had a huge smile. He kept looking at us to make sure we were seeing the same thing he saw. It was incredible once the Tigers came out it was insane he screamed with delight and was jumping up and down in his seat. He really loved every moment.
Kaia brought her binoculars that she had made at school and used them throughout the show. She kept yelling "WOW! DID YOU SEE THAT!" It was awesome. She said her favorite was the acrobats doing flips.
We will definitely be going again next year it was truly amazing how much they loved every moment of the Circus.

Outdoor Camp at School

Everyday the kids would go on a hike and then choose a new spot to set up camp.
They set up their tent and a picinic area. They also made their own snack and lunch every day.

Its been really hot so I took some liquid water colors and froze them in an ice cube tray
I went to goodwill abd bought a white table cloth for $3

We then went to town painting away

It was awesome, we still had some frozen paint left so I stuck it back in the freezer for another day.

So I went to get something in the other room and when I came back to the kitchen this is what I found.

It may have been because I was laughing hysterically. I wonder when Mike will notice the bite marks on our block of cheese.

The Tortoise and the Hat?

Mikey loves Bertha and as far as I can tell Bertha loves Mikey. We have three tortoises Bonnie, Bertha, and Burt. Bertha by far is the most gregarious of the bunch. She comes to you as soon as she sees you and generally seems to like being around Mikey.
Mikey made Bertha a hat out of a flower and kept putting it on her head Bertha did not mind she kept eating the flowers, don't worry they were nasturtiums... edible flowers, unfortunately I did not get any pictures of that ( I was laughing to hard) I did however get pics of the kids wearing their hats.

Ladybugs and Cupcakes

We had so much fun at Mikey's Birthday party with the Ladybugs I promised the kids we would do it at home to.

We had a blast at Pretend City the kids love it there!

Mikey became quite the expet with the water squirter
Kaia's favorite was the pop out where she could crawl under and then pop out in the center ofthe water
The kids worked together on the water wheel

The Dentist office was one of their favorite places

The Doctors Office is always one of Kaia's favorite places to play
She checked on Daddy to make sure he was nice and healthy

Then they both worked on the X Rays.

Mikey had fun in the garden while Kaia went to story time
I think he will be a great Gardener someday

We ended the day with an art project in the art studio. It was a great day!

Ice Cream Play Date

We had a super fun Zhu Zhu pet Ice Cream playdate

Mikey grabbed a huge handful of chocolate sprinkles before I could stop him and stuffed his cute little cheeks
The kids helped set the table
And helped hang the decorations
Mikey enjoyed his sherbert
Kaia too.
I couldn't help but make banana split cupcakes. They are banana cupcakes, with cream cheese frosting, sprinkles, a red jelly bean on top and chocolate syrup. they were super cute!

We also had pretend ice cream, although Mikey tried to eat it too.
And we of course had to decorate some ice cream cone's as well

It was the perfect summer day, with friends, outside play, arts and crafts, sweets and Zhu Zhu Pets!

Have you seen this commercial? So has Kaia why was it on during cartoon time I don't know? But Kaia saw it and was deeply moved. So moved in fact we had the conversation below.

It was early in the morning and Kaia asked me to put on her cartoons. So I did and then I took Mikey into the other room to change his diaper. A few minutes later Kaia came running in the room and this is the conversation that took place...

Kaia "Mommy all the animals are going to DIE!"

Me "No, Kaia all the animals will be just fine".

Kaia "No, Mommy all the animals are going to DIE, unless we send them Money to show them we care, and then they will send us a t shirt and bag to let us know that the animals will be okay"

Me (after stifling back my laughter) "Kaia its okay it was a commercial and the animals will be okay".

Kaia "No Mommy the animals need our money right now!"

This went on for some time until she dubbed herself "Protector of all Animals" and some how I conceded to allow her to get a baby pig and a rhino not sure exactly how that happened. I think we need to watch less TV.

The Irish Festival

My adorable boy in his Kilt
Mike also got a Kilt for Father's Day. And Mikey the fierce decided to wage war with the unsuspecting Daddy. He won and the Daddy was taught a good lesson "always fear and respect the Mikey Doodle".
Our beautiful preincess enjoyed running back and forth and back and forth and then back and forth some more. Seriously she did a lot of running.

She also attacked legs.
Since Mike got the kilt I should get those cool bowls, right?
I think the answer is YES!
Oh, Kaia drove us to the Irish Festival... she is very advanced for a four year old.

Father's Day Presents

The kids made Mike some bowls for Father's Day. I swear it wasn't because I was hoping they would end up as mine or anything.

This was actually super easy and a lot of fun we are totally going to be doing this again.

I have some small plastic beads that the kids put in a pie tin they put them in a design or just sparatically. Kaia actually made her design with polka dots which was pretty cool.

After the beads melted and looked kind of like glass, I took empty soup cans and put them under the flattened hardened plastic which was now like a big circle. It took only a few minutes in the oven at this point for the bowls to take shape.

They turned out so pretty!

Art- It's a beautiful (messy) thing

We had some fun creating some exciting art projects. Yosemite (our Blue and gold Macaw) left Kaia a present one of his tail feathers fell out and Kaia used it like a pen to write on her paper.

And then of course finger painted as well.

Snuggle's

Mikey's Grandma Julie and Grandpa Paul got Mikey a super snuggly pillow pet for his birthday. It was so snuggly in fact that Kaia decided that amount of snuggleyness is only for four year olds. So she claimed it as her own. She has slept with it every naptime and night since. To make things right we ended up letting Mikey choose another pet. So he chose a puppy and everything is right in the world again=)
